There are 2 kinds of Target RedCard: debit card and credit card.
Both have the same benefits and I think it just boils down to your current budgeting strategy and/or personal preference.
You can manage either type of accounts via the Target website.
Target Red Card Debit Card
If you sign up for a Target Red Card debit card, you’ll need to link your bank account with it.
There’ll be no interest; it works exactly like a debit card. Depending on your bank, it’ll take 1-2 days for the funds to get deducted from your account.
Target Red Card Credit Card
If you sign up for a Target Red Card credit card, you’ll need to be approved. It’s exactly like signing up for a credit card.
You can work around the interest fees by paying off your balance before your billing cycle ends.
It also maximizes the 5% off discount you get for every purchase if you don’t pay any interest.

At the end of the day, it’s best to weigh the benefits and whether having this card will actually help you. Otherwise, don’t sign up at all.
I personally have the Target RedCard credit card; it works for me and my personal preference. I just pay off the balance right away.

The Target REDcard is valuable for a few reasons and thus is a card worth considering if you often shop at the retailer. REDcard gets you a 5% discount, free 2 day shipping for online orders and an extended return period. While neither the debit nor the credit REDcard normally offer any sort of bonus, Target is once again offering a bonus for a limited time. As I have mentioned before, I have the REDcard debit card and use it occasionally for the 5% discount. The debit card doesn’t require a hard pull, but the credit card does so I would take that into consideration. For those who shop at Target often, the 5% savings plus 2 day shipping can definitely be worth it and it’s also nice to get that $40 discount.
