Love Beauty and Planet Hair Care Products Review

Love Beauty and Planet launched in 2018.

I remember there was a buy one get one free coupon in the Sunday paper and extrabucks deal promotion at CVS.

It also became part of Target’s Beauty Box which I ordered.

After trying the deluxe sample size, I decided to purchase it at CVS and is now part of my shampoo rotation.

If you do decide to try this product, I included a How to Save section towards the end of this post.

Is Love Beauty and Planet sulfate free?

Not all of their products are sulfate-free. However, they came out with this sulfate-free Murumuru Butter and Rose shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair.

Is Love Beauty and Planet organic?

Not all of the ingredients are organic and natural. But this Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower variety contains organic coconut oil.

Is Love Beauty and Planet cruelty-free and/or vegan?

According to their website:

“For us, loving the planet means caring for all creatures who share it. That’s why Love Beauty and Planet products are never ever tested on animals. We are independently certified Cruelty-Free and Vegan by PETA, and vegan certified by Vegan Action, and this is something we’re super proud of.”

However, Love Beauty and Planet is owned by Unilever, a company that tests on animals. This company makes Dove, Axe, St Ives, Ponds and more. If this is important to you, you’ll have to skip this product.

Love Beauty and Planet Shampoo & Conditioner Review – My Family’s Experience

I try to purchase products that will work for my whole family – husband and 2 kids. This way, I buy fewer products.

My daughter and I have totally different hair types.

My Hair Type

  • Dry scalp
  • Prone to dandruff
  • Waist-length
  • Never been dyed
  • Low maintenance – hardly use any heat tools or products
  • Wavy, medium thickness hair
  • No tangles

My Daughter’s Hair Type

  • Dry scalp
  • Hair gets oily fast
  • Shoulder length
  • Never been dyed – she’s 10
  • Low maintenance – hardly use any heat tools or products
  • Wavy, thick and coarse hair
  • Tangles easily

This Love Beauty and Planet Coconut Water & Mimosa flower shampoo lathers well and a little goes a long way to wash my whole head. I love that the scent isn’t all coconut but rather a mix of something fruity and floral with coconut. I’ve never encountered a mimosa flower in real life so no comment on that particular fragrance.

The scent stays in my hair until the next wash day; I wash my hair every other day. My husband commented that my “hair smells nice” – always a plus in my book! This tells me that the fragrance doesn’t give him a headache. He’s usually sensitive to strong fragrances.

Same goes for my daughter who has thick hair and because she stays out in the sun during recess, her head smells like sweat at the end of the day. This shampoo also leaves her hair smelling great – she likes it.

Does it clean our hair and scalp?

I think so. We don’t use too much hair products so I can’t comment on that but my daughter’s hair gets oily. This shampoo leaves our hair clean and fluffy.

Does it volumize our hair?

I also think so. This is more noticeable with my long hair. It feels lighter, therefore doesn’t weigh my hair down even after using conditioner.

My daughter is young so of course, her hair is shiny and luscious. But in my case, my hair does look shinier after using this product.

What about my husband and son?

Well, my son has no issues, he’s only 8. My husband’s only concern about a shampoo product is fragrance due to allergies and if it gives him acne (usually on his head and back of the neck area). Fortunately, he loves the scent and it doesn’t give him pimples.

Tangled Hair Issue

My daughter’s hair tangles VERY EASILY, as in she’ll have knots like crazy!

I use a tangle teezer brush and gives her a coconut oil hair mask at least once a month. I also found that Cream Silk conditioner, which my sister brought back from the Philippines, helps detangle her hair!

The Love Beauty and Planet Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower conditioner does the same thing for my daughter’s hair as the Cream Silk conditioner! This is probably because it’s made by the same company, Unilever.

Love Beauty and Planet Review – Final Thoughts

I love that my whole family can use this Love Beauty and Planet Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower shampoo and conditioner.

I especially love that the conditioner works very well for my daughter’s tangle-prone hair.

The packaging is pretty with embossed graphics and chic bottle. I love that it’s made from 100% recycled material.

If you’re considering this product because of the earth-goddess marketing concept then you’ll need to pass. This isn’t for you. It has sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) and other chemicals. Also, it has fragrance.

But if those things don’t concern you and just simply curious about this product, then definitely give it a go!

I’ve already added this product to our list of shampoo rotation; I need to rotate shampoos to keep my scalp happy.

I’ve also already tried a different variety, Coconut Oil and Ylang Ylang. It’s for damaged and dry hair. I tried it for the scent which is equally amazing as the coconut water!
